The old "take a break myth" - is mythbuster-proof

So - I've been kinda rare around the tables lately - except for the occasional MTT where I've been running pretty good. Didn't play any poker at all for 4 days, bacause of remodeling my new place and then eventually moving into it.

Anyway - almost a week of no SNG:s - so I sat down yesterday to 2-table for an hour. Won both. Thank you break, won't see you soon - but take care.

A ridiculous rush - unfortunately in micro

I was a bit bored the other day and decided to waste my 2.50 freeroll winnings at Titan - so I played a DirtyDozen SNG (It's a 2.00+0.35 buyin 12 player Jackpot SNG). I have never, ever sat at a table with worse players. Came in second - after loosing a coinflip heads-up. I decided to continue playing at least one of these a day until I either bust or win the jackpot (4 wins in a row gets you a neat $2000). These are my stats right now:

Played 6, starting bankroll $2.50, current bankroll $36.40
Current streak 2 wins - best streak 2 wins
1:st 3
2:nd 2
3:rd 0
4:th 0
bust 1

ROI 240%
ITM 83%
Profit: $33.90
Profit/trny $5.65

The funniest thing is that I've actually come within inches of baggin the jackpot already - 3 of the 4 top finishes we're back to back - and both times I came in second I had a better hand getting outdrawn allin - heads-up.
I wish I had these numbers playing $20 or $50 SNG's....

edit: stats updated

Adapting your NLHE strategy to the game at hand

A lot of good/decent players always chant the same mantras: "Position is crucial", "Play the player" "Get all your money in the middle with the best hand". These are all generally good advice, but there are times to deviate from these gems of wisdom.

I have noticed a lot of ill-adapted play in specific situations. I firmly believe that you need to use somewhat different tactics in a MTT compared to satelite and again different tactics in a sit'n'go.

SNG:S

The main reason I'm writing about SNG:s first is that so far our league games are basically two table sng:s, and I'm witnessing some questionable play from some of our members. Often times this SNG-mindset is also applicable to our freerolls when not too many people have signed up. What I question is the occasional reckless early play by some of our members.

An extremely early (maybe 4:th or 5:th hand dealt) three-way allin after the flop at Absolute last time around, with one player holding top pair/top kicker the other flopping two pair(middle and bottom) and the third Gina - the italian eye-candy ;D ) flopping the nut straight made me think a bit.
Would I have put all my money in being player one or player two ? Sure there are times when your not focused and want to double up fast or go get a beer. But generally, when playing a serious game I would say no - I wouldn't - not with that board.

Early stages of tournaments are quite similar overall, however I would advocate an extremely tight approach early on in a sng. You have so few people to beat to the money that you can easily sit back early on and wait for monster hands and/or donks to (happily) take themselves out of your sng.

Middle stages of an sng I would play very much like I would play an MTT early on - still waiting for good hands, but with the occasional position exploit thrown into the mix.

Note that I would play this way basically regardless of my stack size. Even if I'm the bigstack in my sng there's no reason to throw chips around and double people up - only loosen your requirements a fraction - and only if you feel you can outplay people post-flop. Also try and estimate the risks of having to call an all-in with your mediocre hand.

When you've made the money positions in the sng is the time to switch gears depending a bit on the size of your stack. If you're shortstacked - you should consider push or fold mode. With the middle stack - I would probably fold everything except AA KK QQ AK. Hell, I would even fold one of these top-hands if the small-stack was allin and the bigstack had called. And as the bigstack you start raising every reasonable hand preflop.

Remember that success is not always about winning very pot! Stay tuned for the next edition where I'll try and go into sattelites and how to adapt to the payout.

It's OK to fold a pretty hand

Yesterday freerollerz leage 2 game 3 kicked off. I got seated with tomonbass to my right and holis to my left. I respect the play of both of these players - when they tell you they have a hand - they're usually not kidding - and only on occasion will I look these pre-flop raises up with anything other than a killer hand. And I know tom's just red Harrington on Hold'em - so I'm no expecting great bluffs from him.

About half an hour into the game yesterday - kesaco on tom's right hasn't caught any cards apparantly and is nearing critical M. I'm pretty sure his waiting for a high pair or big slick to make a preflop push hoping to double up.

This hand kesaco is UTG - and goes all in....I've picked up AKo - but before I get a chance to call - tom reraises allin.....

So for the first time ever I muck AK preflop - apparantly holis picked up KQs after me and decided to fold too.
kesaco had J6o - tom AA and the aces held up.

edit: I had to come back and edit this entry after reviewing the hand history on this- it was as accurate as the weather report....

Bonus Whoring Guide by Lil Fizz!

OK you asked for it kiddies.. and here it is. If you follow this guide you should be able to turn your $50 into at least $1,000 in about a month (give or take cash out times). These sites arent in any particular order, you can do whatever you want as long as you have enough money to make the full bonus.

Things to remember while whoring:
1. You aren't always going to make the full bonus. Its poker, things happen. Don't get frustrated if you lose a little bit on one site.. it'll all even out in the end.
2. The easiest way to clear bonuses is by playing low limit holdem. I know most of you hate limit but its less risk. For the amount of hands you'll be playing you prolly won't make alot of money on the tables. Thats what the bonuses are for!!
3. Make sure you support freerollerz by downloading all these sites from Holis!! ;D

Site #1: Bet365
I reccommend doing this site first because their bonus offer ends on Oct 31st!!
They offer a sign up bonus of 100% up to $50 after 250 raked hands. You must play on .50/1.00 or above to count as a raked hand. There is a raked hand counter in the lobby for you to check on your progress. Once you've played your 250 raked hands you then have to email them to get this bonus. Then after you play another 250 raked hands they have a special October bonus for an additional $100. Again you must email them to claim your bonus. Cashout to Neteller is a little different from most sites but if anyone needs help I'll explain it to you!!
Total Bonus:$150
Games: Soft
Cashout time: 1-2 days

DOWNLOAD BY CLICKING BELOW:

Site #2: SportingBet
Sporting Bet offers a $100 bonus after 500 raked hands. Raked hands on this site can be played at any limit but they only count contributed raked hands. That just means you have to see the flop for the hand to count. You can check on your progress my IMing live support. This one will take a little longer than on Bet365 but trust me.. the level of players at this site is so weak it will make up for it!!
Total Bonus: $100
Games: Laughable
Cashout time: FAST (under 30 min)

Site #3: Betfred
LOL I finally get you guys to take the Fizzie challenge!! Betfred is offering a 100% signup bonus up to $100 after 1000 raked hands. Hands must be played at .50/1.00 or above and every hand you are dealt that is raked gets couted. You can check on the progress of your bonus by IMing live support- the best in the biz I'd say. They answer you within seconds and are always very polite. Once you have played 1000 hands they will credit you the bonus automatically, or you can ask live support and they will credit it for you.
Total Bonus: $100
Games: Suck-out City
Cashout time: FAST

DOWNLOAD BY CLICKING BELOW:

Site #4: Absolute Poker
AP is offering a sign up bonus of 200% up to $200. Looks like they changed their bonus from when I did it and I couldn't find anything about it on their site.. But when it was only $150 bonus it was cleared at 10x so for the $200 you'd have to play 2000 hands. Umm.. I will warn you on AP the games are really rough. You prolly won't make the full bonus on this one.. But you should earn enough points to get a free tshirt!! LOL
Total Bonus: $200 (?)
Games: Rock Garden
Cashout time: average

DOWNLOAD BY CLICKING BELOW:

Site #5: Carribean Sun
After AP I think you're gonna need a little break. Time for the two most easiest and fun sites to whore!! Carribean Sun I'd deposit there first. They offer 100% deposit bonus up to $50 and then a monthly player bonus of $40. Trust me.. you should make much more than that!! The cashout system is a little different than most sites. They send you a PIN number through the mail and you can't cash out until you have it. Depending on where you live, it could take up to a week to recieve it. So what I would do is just dump $50, wait for you PIN before playing, and move on to the next site. Don't forget to come back later though hehee
Total Bonus: $90
Games: Laughable
Cashout time: average (once you have your PIN)

DOWNLOAD BY CLICKING BELOW:

Site #6: Pacific Poker
This site is GREAT!! They offer a 25% deposit bonus up to $100. But your bonus is credited immediately to your account. So you can cash out your $400 and keep the bonus money in your account to play with. You need to wager $2000 to cash out your bonus money, so I recommend grinding it out on the $1/2 tables. You have to email them to see how much you have wagered.
Total Bonus: $100
Games: Sooo funny I almost peed my pants!!!
Cashout time: Extremely sloooow (7-10 days!!)

DOWNLOAD BY CLICKING BELOW:

Theres more on the way but I figured that should keep you all busy for a while. GL!!! :D

Absolute Poker Rewards affiliates!

Last night Absoulte Poker held an affiliate appreciation tournament. First prize was a $12,000 package to the 2006 WSOP.

I was shocked to see that only 55 affiliates signed up. Oddly enough, we had our first private freeroll on Absolute the same night and had more players than this huge event.

I made the final table with mid range chips and ended up losing with my ak to his pocket aces. This is probably the closest I have ever been to winning a major prize...

One hand I recall early in the tourney was when I called an all in after the flop with AK diamonds and 4 to the flush when my competitor turned over pocket aces. It was a loose call by me but I felt I had to make a move.

Anyway.... It was a great event and I applaud absolute for showing us you care.

checking in

Boy this sure has been a busy few weeks for me. Have had to do 3 major jobs at the shop..one cookbook order and two fundraisers for the schools. Its been great, but alot of work. Our high school year book committee is selling bumper stickers, address labels, stationary, etc. to raise money, and working with the teens has been a blast. They should be getting all their orders ready by the end of the month, so the first of September should be booming too.

Been busy playing poker too! Have won a couple, lost a lot, and placed in a few others. I'd like to report I've struck it rich this month, but that would be so far from the truth that it would be laughable. Got on a bad streak last week, and couldn't seem to hardly get a hand, but at least that seems to have taken a break. Am getting ready to play in a tourny on Hollywood here in a few minutes.

We had a private freeroll on betfred last night, but I wasn't able to play since my husband had guests over for dinner. I'd like to congratulate the winners! Several new members to the forum placed right on up there, including the 1st place finisher Joseppi, who seems to be a neat person, and is contributing quite a bit to the forum.

I am anxiously waiting for the league tourney on Friday nite, so far I'm still sticking in there in the #4 position, so I hope I can hold out til the final table. Of course then, I will more than likely go down in flames, but I intend to give it a heck of a try!

Well, guess I'm out of here for now. Talk to everyone later, and take care! Try to avoid this nasty heat!

Just stopped by to say hi!

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tina, but most just call me Grannygrump. I have 4 children (1 girl, and 3 boys)...my daughter has my very first and precious grandson, William! The boys better wait a few years before I get any from them...they are all teenagers! I live in a small rural area is Southern Missouri (the Ozarks). Beautiful country! I have been married for a bit over 20 years to my wonderful hubby Sam. I own a small print business which gives me lots of opportunities to pursue other areas of interest (poker).

I joined Freerollerz.com a while back and absolutely love the site! Betty and Holis have been great and I have made several friends and like the community atmosphere! I became a moderator a week or so ago to help them out with our growing community. Hope I can help them make it the ultimate site for poker info! If any of you out there haven't been over to check us out, now is as good of time as any...we welcome you!

Until later, have a good one! And remember to be nice to little old ladies you meet at the poker tables!

Well we had another freeroll at CD tonight , and it went real well. But after is was over found out that some players are giving out passwords. Had 3 people that got in the money and was not even register to our forum.
Don't our forum players no that they are hurting there self my giving away the password to a private freeroll. I don know If it was caught in time for the Administrator to not have to pay them. I sure hope so. Holis is gonna be peeved and I don't blame him.

i agree with you on the growing

I very much agree with Holis on our forum growing very nicely . I think he has some help from his wife. HA HA .. We have some great changes on the forum (for the better). I still want more smileys .. I have been looking on internest for some great news about poker. I did find the "quotes" from the editors about poker . sounds like to me they are a little jealous. They keep saying poker in not a sport , SO , who cares .It is very intertaining to watch.

freeroll forum growing nicely

Well we are growing nicely and I hope it continues...

I tried to add a script today to the boards that would give us some arcade games functionality but it did not work as planned so I removed it.

I am thankful for betty being around, shes doing a great job with the moderating of the forums.

as an aside, kids grow up so fast. Im sitting here looking at my 1st born (almost taller than me now) going on 14 and I cant believe how time flies.

I only wish my father had gotten me interested in poker at his age, I would probably be in a different place right now :)

my Sunday

Yesterday was my grandson's Birthday, He turned 7 yrs. I am not just bragging , he is a very smart 7 yr old . His baby sister told him her birthday is next week. He told her, " you can only have 1 Birthday in 2005" , her birthday was last month. It just amazes me the things kids learn now so young.

We are planning on a fishing trip , if the weather ever breaks and can get so cool weather in the 8O's . This weather is just to hot to enjoy much . So I just play online poker.

Poker tip of the week by Hosh

Poker Tip of the Week
Today we are off to the bull ring of poker. Out comes the bull amongst cheers of anticipation of the crowd. Today will not be a good day for either the matador or the bull. But what’s this where is this matador. Men on horses called picadors enter the ring. The bull charges in his rage and flicks his head to the left to hit the picador. The picador places a sharp lance in the bulls lefts shoulder. Again the bull charges and flicks his head left to hit the picador again the bull feels the sharp pain of the lance on his left shoulder. This continues till the bull no longer flicks his head to the left and the picadors feel the bull runs straight. Only then does the matador enter the ring. The bull charges the matador but runs straight and the matador easily avoids the bull and will surely die. If however the bull flicks to the right or left while charging the matador he may kill the matador. But his tendency has been cured by the picadors. Poker much like a bullfight requires you to cure tendencies of opponents and wear them down. If they like to check raise do not bet take a free card. Timid opponents must be bet aggressively to make them fold. Bulls surely should not be bluffed they will not fold. People who bet the flop and not the turn should be called on the flop and bet on the river. If they bet to much call them down with weaker hands. If they like to make it three bets make it four with larger pairs or AK. You on the other hand must become unpredictable. You do not want have straight tendencies. Check raise sometimes, bluff sometimes, three bet with nothing sometimes and bet till the flop sometimes and to the turn and river other times. (Example courtesy Rick Greider Teacher of Champions)

passwords

We have been having some trouble with members in our forum giving out passwords. Going to other forums and inviting people that are not members of our forum. So our members are complaning this is not fair. Really don't understand why they do this . To make them feel special on the other fourms ( maybe ). We have been working very hard at making Drawdead freerollerz.com a great forum. The players that do play in our private freerolls and are not members will not be paid.
