On Sunday night I walked into the bar where I am playing in a poker league. I saw some new guys talking to the league manager. Upon my entering the league manager noted to the dude that I was the points leader by ALOT of points (I have roughly 200 more points than my closest competitor). The new guy, I'll call him "Al" didn't seem very impressed. In fact, as I left the room he started talking to another new guy about me, saying things about me, like "she doesn't look like a poker player" and "I can beat her". And maybe they didn't think I could hear them or maybe they were trying to be intimidating, don't know, don't much give a rat's ass.
So we start playing, I get dealt some nice cards, flush after flush. Of course , 1st hand I have AJhearts and get pushed all after the flop comes with 2 hearts (Q and 10) so I've almost flopped the biggest nut of all - the Royal. Other player has 2 hearts also, but has paired the board with his 9 of hearts. The river is a heart and I take out 1 person. Throughout the next 5 or so hands I am being dealt either high suited connectors or pocket pairs. My chip stack is so large that it takes over the 2 spots on the sides of me.
Anyway, without going through the entire game hand by hand - I end up heads up with none other than "Al" the doubter of female poker players. And guess what- I schooled him. But he did the gentlemanly thing and shook my hand after the game. Haha - beat by a girl.
So this win has solidified my trip to the big event on the 18th. Now all I have to do is beat out about 159 other players (of which only 7 or so are women) to win $10K!
